PlaceRace is a geography guessing game developed by Boggy Studios. This policy explains what information we collect, how we handle it, and what choices you have.
Profile information you provide. When you set up your in-game profile, you choose a nickname, a country flag, and an avatar character. These are stored on your device and synced to our server so other players can see them during multiplayer games.
Gameplay data. As you play, we record scores, round times, guess distances, win/loss records, your Elo rating, daily challenge results, and streak counts. This data powers leaderboards, skill-based matchmaking, and your personal stats page.
Multiplayer game data. During live multiplayer matches, the coordinates of your map guesses are transmitted to your opponent in real time. This data is used only for gameplay and is not stored permanently on our servers.
Device information (feedback only). If you choose to submit feedback through the app, we collect your device model and iOS version alongside your message to help us reproduce issues. We do not collect device information at any other time.
What we do NOT collect. We never collect your real name, email address, Apple ID, physical location, photos, contacts, or advertising identifier. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or crash reporting services. The app contains no ads and no in-app purchases.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
PlaceRace relies on the following third-party services to function:
Apple Game Center. Handles multiplayer matchmaking, leaderboards, achievements, and peer-to-peer game data during matches. Your Game Center display name is visible to opponents. Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy
Supabase. Our backend server for storing gameplay statistics, leaderboard rankings, and daily challenge results. Your account is fully anonymous — no email or password is required. Supabase's privacy policy: supabase.com/privacy
Mapbox. Provides the interactive maps you play on. The Mapbox SDK may collect usage telemetry such as map tile requests and SDK version information. PlaceRace does not request or use your device's GPS location. Mapbox's privacy policy: mapbox.com/legal/privacy
Most of your data lives on your device in local storage. Gameplay statistics and your anonymous profile are also stored on our Supabase backend, linked to an anonymous identifier — not to your email or Apple ID. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit.
PlaceRace includes an iMessage extension for playing games with friends. Game state — including city selections, guess coordinates, and scores — is embedded in iMessage payloads. These messages are protected by Apple's end-to-end encryption.
PlaceRace is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
If you are in the European Economic Area (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may also object to or restrict certain processing. Our legal basis for processing is legitimate interest in providing game functionality.
If you are in California (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information.

We retain your gameplay data for as long as your anonymous account is active. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. Upon deletion, your server-side data will be permanently removed. Local data on your device can be cleared by deleting the app.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of PlaceRace after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
